African National Congress Youth League - Madness

Former ANCYL president Lulu Johnson says the organisation has always seen itself as a product of its mother body – the African National Congress – and that its “militance must go together with discipline and respect”.

Johnson – now an ANC Member of Parliament and chairperson of the agriculture, forestry and fisheries portfolio committee – was the second ANCYL president after Peter Mokaba.

In an interview with The New Age in relation to the current mayhem involving ANCYL members in Johannesburg, Johnson said the youth league must not forget that it belonged the ANC.

“Now the youth league wants to see itself as an independent entity from the mother body, and the media is promoting that position, which is very unfortunate.

“We have heard its leadership making radical statements. I would rather be calm, stable and collected and have my message well thought of than thinking on my feet…. So what again is Julius doing and where did he learn this bush mentality from?
